With the support of her church, she attended citizenship classes. Despite some setbacks, she persevered and successfully became a citizen, believing that with perseverance and “echándole ganas,” everything is possible.
Gustavo
Gustavo, a U.S. citizen from Mexico, is a hardworking and loving father of two. After many years as a permanent resident, Gustavo decided to pursue citizenship to gain better opportunities and avoid the expense of renewing his Green Card. Now a citizen, he balances his work as a salesman with spending valuable time with his family, dreaming about the future his daughters will have in a city filled with opportunities.
Maria Tran
Maria is a U.S. citizen from Vietnam who came to Houston with her two children. With help from the community, she was able to study and receive crucial support to overcome the language barrier and become a proud U.S. citizen.
Vestine
Vestine, a U.S. citizen from Rwanda, is a survivor of the tragic genocide and a mother of two. Houston became her home, a place that changed her life, where she fell in love, and had big dreams for her twin sons.
